A tale of two acquisitions
Lifetimely and Checkout Blocks were both acquired. Their review curves do not look remotely the same. Lifetimely had already banked most of its public trust before AMP. Checkout Blocks stayed quiet after Shopify, then got loud nearly a year later. And Commslayer, a newer helpdesk app, is already close enough to make the comparison interesting.
The delayed lever
Checkout Blocks did not spike at the announcement
Shopify announced the Checkout Blocks acquisition on June 3, 2024. The first 180 days after that look almost identical to the 180 days before it: 14 reviews before, 14 after. The volume arrives later. From mid-2025 onward, the app adds 137 observed reviews, and the low-rating count climbs from 2 in the pre-window to 28 later.
That is the cleanest reading of this curve: the acquisition changed the feedback surface through distribution. More Plus merchants could use it, so more merchants had a reason to review it.
Rating pressure
More feedback also meant rougher feedback
Monthly averages are noisy when a product gets only a few reviews, so this chart rolls the ratings up by quarter and marks thin samples. Lifetimely's pre-sale history is almost impossibly clean: 5★ before the six-month run-up. Checkout Blocks moves the other way: more public feedback, a lower average, and more one- and two-star reviews after the late volume ramp.
The third line
Commslayer reached 100 before Checkout Blocks did
Commslayer is not an acquisition story, and this report does not rely on an unverified founder link. It is here because the review curve is already comparable. It reached 100 reviews on day 788 — slower than Lifetimely's 615 days, but faster than Checkout Blocks' 1,010. By day 884, it had reached 178 visible reviews, close to Checkout Blocks' current 187.
The cooling spike
The Commslayer ramp already cooled
The tempting headline is that Commslayer added 110 reviews in the last 180 days. The honest headline is sharper: that was a February to April spike. The current 30-day pace is back to about 8 reviews per month, far below the 18.3 per month implied by the longer window.
So the forecast is not a prediction. It is a range of straight-line scenarios: at the cooled 30-day pace, 500 reviews is about 1,207 days away; at the spike-including 180-day pace, it would be 527 days.
How this was measured
- Based on public Shopify App Store listing and review data for Lifetimely, Checkout Blocks and Commslayer, generated on June 13, 2026. Trajectory charts count every review we have observed, including reviews later removed, because the question is when feedback was posted.
- Current counts use visible public listing review counts: Lifetimely 493, Checkout Blocks 187, Commslayer 178.
- Deletion flags only cover removals observed after our first scrape of each listing: Commslayer from 2026-04-28, Lifetimely from 2026-04-30, Checkout Blocks from 2026-05-01. A review posted and removed before then is invisible to this dataset.
- Acquisition dates are public announcement dates: Checkout Blocks on June 3, 2024 via TechCrunch; Lifetimely on August 2, 2023 from the acquisition metadata supplied for this report.
